چکیده

Single-crystal semiconductors have been at the forefront of scientific interest for more than 70 years, serving as the backbone of electronic devices. Inorganic single crystals are typically grown from a melt using time-consuming and energy-intensive processes. Organic semiconductor single crystals, however, can be grown using solution-based methods at room temperature in air, opening up the possibility of large-scale production of inexpensive electronics targeting applications ranging from field-effect transistors and light-emitting diodes to medical X-ray detectors. Here we demonstrate a low-cost, scalable spray-printing process to fabricate high-quality organic single crystals, based on various semiconducting small molecules on virtually any substrate by combining the advantages of antisolvent crystallization and solution shearing. The crystals' size, shape and orientation are controlled by the sheer force generated by the spray droplets' impact onto the antisolvent's surface. This method demonstrates the feasibility of a spray-on single-crystal organic electronics.

Carbon nanotubes-semiconductor networks for organic electronics: The pickup stick transistor

We demonstrate an alternative path for achieving high transconductance organic transistors in spite of relatively large source to drain distances. The improvement of the electronic characteristic of such a scheme is equivalent to a 60-fold increase in mobility of the underlying organic semiconductor. The method is based on percolating networks, which we create from a dispersion of individual si...

Assembling semiconducting molecules by covalent attachment to a lamellar crystalline polymer substrate

We have investigated the potential of polymers containing precisely spaced side-branches for thin film applications, particularly in the context of organic electronics. Upon crystallization, the side-branches were excluded from the crystalline core of a lamellar crystal. Thus, the surfaces of these crystals were covered by side-branches. By using carboxyl groups as side-branches, which allow fo...

Additive manufacturing of micrometric crystallization vessels and single crystals

We present an all-additive manufacturing method that is performed at mild conditions, for the formation of organic single crystals at specific locations, without any photolithography prefabrication process. The method is composed of two steps; inkjet printing of a confinement frame, composed of a water soluble electrolyte. Then, an organic semiconductor solution is printed within the confinemen...

Wave Printing (II) : Polymer MISFETs Using Microcontact Printing

The advent of printing for the manufacturing of transistors is a task vividly pursued both for silicon[1] and polymer-based devices [2-4]. Printed MISFET devices based on semiconducting polymer have already been realized with soft lithography [5], but they were either using an unstructured gate substrate or designed for low resolution alignments [2,4]. For printable electronics to become a real...

A semiconducting organic radical cationic host-guest complex.

The self-assembly and solid-state semiconducting properties of single crystals of a trisradical tricationic complex composed of the diradical dicationic cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) (CBPQT(2(•+))) ring and methyl viologen radical cation (MV(•+)) are reported. An organic field effect transistor incorporating single crystals of the CBPQT(2(•+))⊂MV(•+) complex was constructed using lithographic ...
